Foundations of Marketing Workshop Launch

I am very excited to announce my very first Foundations of Marketing Workshop, which will be taking place in Whitstable on Wednesday 8th March 2017.

Having met and worked with many amazing small businesses, I have seen the struggle some experience when it comes marketing their business. They have been on many courses, seminars, read books, watched videos but this information overload has for some just caused additional stress and confusion.

So let's STOP this confusion and get to the core of your business.

I have also found that for some small business owners when they think about the marketing and PR of their business, it brings them out in a cold sweat! Also this important aspect of business is quite often seen as a luxury rather than a necessity. Plus with so much confusion, the overwhelming belief of "I have do everything" is in fact preventing any marketing activities happening or being effective.

My new Foundations of Marketing workshop is aimed at small business owners to help them gain a clearer understanding of their marketing needs, which are right for their business, not someone else’s. During the workshop we will work on stripping back the layers of their business to build new stronger marketing foundations.

There are just 6 places available as it is important to me that each business owner who attends gains maximum benefit from attending. However if demand is there I will create additional workshop dates.

First PR Coverage

First PR Coverage
Following on from my last post about my work with Melanie at Lothian Therapy, it was great to pick up the latest issue of Natural Health magazine to see her featured in the Festive Stress article. This was Melanie's first piece of national PR and just a small part of the work we have done together. From finding her core focus, creating her message, to creating her brand and promoting her services, it has been a fun and successful 4 months working together. Plus there is more PR coverage to come in the next couple of weeks!

Creating Focus - Lothian Therapy
A couple of months ago I was introduced by a previous client to Melanie Phillips of Lothian Therapy. Although we couldn't be further apart in distance, as Melanie is based on the East Coast of Scotland and I am based in East Kent, we have formed a successful working relationship focussing on raising an awareness to the great work Melanie does as a Cognitive Hypnotherapist, EFT Specialist and Life Coach.

Following the basis of my small business package, we have peeled back the layers of her work and found her true niche and specialism.. From there we have created her key message and focus which is now the core of her promotion and marketing including creating a new website, with the help of TDS Media. Then in the past week I have secured placement for her in two national publications in the lead up to Christmas.

We still have some work to do but it has been such a pleasure to work with Melanie and also to be able to see how effective our working together has been for her and her business and in a short space of time.

Working with clients like Lothian Therapy enables me to use my all round skills in marketing and PR as it is important to not only open the door to your business but to be saying the right things to your target audience when they step into your business.

Expectations of PR

I have said this before, the world of PR has changed but then what hasn’t changed over the years? However the one thing that hasn’t changed is the uncertainty as to how to measure return on investment on PR activities. If I had a £1 for every time I have heard someone say either “PR doesn’t work for small businesses” or “but how can I measure my investment in you”, I could have retired by now.

So let me answer both those common questions here and now.

Firstly what is PR? Ok maybe I should re phrase that, what do you think of as PR? For most it is simply about appearing in the media, and they are correct but PR is so much more than that.

PR is the perception of your business, it is the message / image you are portraying to your clients. It is the relationship between you, your employees (if relevant) and your customers. PR opens the door to your business showing your customer who you are and what and how your services and products can benefit them. PR is and can be for ALL types of businesses as it should be seen as a necessity not a luxury! Unfortunately it does also conjure up thoughts of tied contracts and costly retainers too.

To answer the second question in regards to return on investment, this is actually an open ended question as in fact what we need to ask is what are your expectations of PR?

What do you think it will bring to your business? What do you want to achieve with PR?Are you looking for a PR company to send out press releases and devise a campaign to raise awareness to your brand, product or service? Or are you in fact looking for something else?

Please note before I continue…….PR is NOT sales!!

When you employ someone to provide PR services in terms of creating a media buzz about your products and services then that is what you are investing in, and they will work their hardest to attain coverage (which is getting harder and harder anyway – but that’s for another time). But PR is not sales and so by being in the paper does not guarantee sales and that is why it is even more important to ensure that your marketing is right and you are able to fulfil the needs of your clients!
This is where I come in, because I am not your usual PR business / person. Yes I can send out press releases and say how great your business is but I provide more than PR, which is difficult to give a label too although some have called it motivational marketing.

So what is the return on your investment if you work with me? Well, firstly you get me, not me initially then someone else, just me! Someone who has many years of experience in PR and marketing communications. Someone who rolls her sleeves up, gets involved and finds the heart of your business, then creates the message to portray truly what your business does. I provide direction and focus, offering advice and support to ensure your business is talking to the right audience in the right way. Then as and when the time is right I will introduce you to my network of media contacts so you can then confidently appear in the media, but only if you are ready and if it is right for your business. Today business has to be flexible and that is how I work too, with a range of different services and packages to suit all.

PR is not rocket science and yes you can go on workshops, seminars, read books that tell you what you must do and how to do it BUT I believe that it needs someone from outside your business to be able to really capture the essence of who you are, what your business is about and clearly stating that core message to your target audience.

So I hope that this gives you more confidence in the importance of PR for your business and helps you evaluate your expectations about it and demonstrates the value of your investment.

Feel the Glow!

Feel the Glow!
Over the past week it has been great to see two pieces of client media coverage that I secured for nutrition and fitness group, Glow. Must admit I do love getting great case studies into magazines especially as they can inspire so many. This was one of those stories. Lovely Laura has lost 4 stone and looked amazing. This appeared in the Woman Magazine Diet Special.

On behalf of Glow I have also created and built a strong relationship with Bella magazine, in which we create a 7 days healthy eating plan. Based on the Glow principles these featured menu plans encourage us to cook from scratch and to enjoy fresh and wholesome foods.
